What makes Park City a great community and a town you want to live and own real estate in? So many things- some of which you may not know about…
Incredibly affordable, easy access for of all local kids to participate in snow sports.
When my family moved to Park City in the fall of 1981, I was eleven and my family was thrilled to learn that full season ski passes were available to Park City School District Students at Park City Ski Area for only $98.00. These were full season passes without blackout days or other restrictions- just a pass to get on the mountain and at a price every parent could afford. The ski areas knew that encouraging kids to be on the mountain skiing likely meant continued participation in the sport for years to come – not to mention the resorts understood the parents would likely buy passes as well. In my case, it worked- I grew up skiing in Park City and I now get to ski here with my own family.
Today, the tradition of easy access for families continues as Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley and The Canyons offer extremely affordable ways for all local students to get on the mountain. For eligible students, unrestricted full season passes to a couple of areas are still under $150.00. The cost per day for kids that ski frequently is less than $10.00- obviously a huge discount from the triple digit full day passes.
Students in Park City also can participate in the Get Out and Play Program. This is a series of sessions- held on Friday afternoons- where students are picked up from school, bused to weekly alpine ski lessons, cross country lessons and other winter sports. They’re picked up after and bused back to their school. Parent and program volunteers provide supervision during the short bus rides to and from school and collecting the kids after their lessons. The kids are given professional instruction, provided by the ski areas for the afternoon. The program spans five weeks and the cost of the program totals less than $200.00 per child- including lift passes! Anyone who has paid for ski lessons will tell you this is a true bargain- not to mention an amazing way for kids to get exercise and socialize outside the classroom.
There may be thousands of reasons why Park City is a great place to live- all of which adds value to the real estate in the Park City area.
